The Perfect Pair: Mini Scarf & Crochet Scrunchie Matching Set

The Perfect Pair: Mini Scarf & Crochet Scrunchie Matching Set

Welcome to my latest blog post, where I combine two of my favorite crafts—knitting and crochet—into one fabulous look! This time, I’m showcasing a chic and playful matching set: a knitted mini scarf and a crocheted scrunchie, both made using Lion Brand’s Ferris Wheel yarn in the dreamy color way, Buttercup.

A Closer Look at the Yarn

Lion Brand’s Ferris Wheel yarn has quickly become a go-to for me, and Buttercup is no exception. Its soft yellow tones with subtle variegation add a touch of sunshine to any accessory. The yarn’s lightweight feel makes it perfect for both the delicate mini scarf and the comfortable, stretchy scrunchie. Find it Here

The Mini Scarf

For the scarf, I opted for a simple garter stitch to highlight the yarn’s natural texture and color transitions. Measuring just long enough to wrap stylishly around the neck without bulk, this mini scarf is versatile for all seasons. I’ve styled it as a tie-front accessory with casual outfits and even as a chic headband alternative.

For the scarf featured in this project, I followed the YouTube tutorial Knitt 니뜨TV. This tutorial is beginner-friendly and includes clear instructions that made the process enjoyable and straightforward. It provided an excellent foundation for creating a cozy and stylish scarf, and I loved how easy it was to adapt the design to fit my personal style. If you’re looking for a fun and accessible crochet project, I highly recommend checking it out!

The Crochet Scrunchie

To complement the mini scarf, I crocheted a scrunchie using a basic single and double crochet combination. This design keeps it functional yet stylish, and the elasticity is perfect for holding up buns or ponytails without tugging. It’s lightweight, soft, and gentle on the hair, thanks to the Ferris Wheel yarn.

Creating this scrunchie was such a fun and creative process! I started by attaching my yarn to a hair tie, placing the hair tie on my hook, and making a slipknot with the yarn. I then chained two over the hair tie and single crocheted as many stitches as I could around it, making sure to stretch the hair tie and adjust the stitches to fit as many as possible for a full, coral-like effect.

[Row 1]: Attach yarn to the hair tie. CH 2 over the hair tie. SC around the hair tie as many times as possible, stretching the tie and moving stitches to fit more. SLST into the first SC.

[Row 2]: CH 3. Work 3 DC into each SC from Row 1. SLST into the first DC.

[Row 3]: Repeat Row 2. SLST into first DC

[Row 4]: (Optional) SC in each ST around. SLST into first SC, Fasten off.

While an optional fourth row using mohair or single crochet could enhance the scrunchie, I chose to stop at Row 3 to let the vibrant colors of my multicolored yarn shine through without being overshadowed. The result is a soft, voluminous scrunchie that’s both practical and eye-catching!
